Blackwatertown is a
small village situated on the River Blackwater, in County Armagh
close to the border with county Tyrone.
Lying to the west of Armagh City Blackwatertown and the neighbouring
village of Charlemont are now of small importance, but in the time
when The Earls of Tyrone disputed ownership of Armagh with the
English, very important places indeed. At Blackwatertown there are
still to be seen the ramparts of the fort built in the sixteenth
century to keep Hugh, Earl of Tyrone, in his own county, on the west
bank of the Blackwater River |
