Ballon is a small
village located in the heart of County Carlow. It is situated 15km
from lively Carlow town, 9km from the golf course in Tullow and 14km
from Bunclody in Wexford
Ballon has a rich history of stonemasonry, one of Ireland’s oldest
crafts, whilst Ballon Hill provides excellent views of the
surrounding countryside. Historians believe that Ballon Hill was the
burial place of the King of Ireland, Cathair Mor, in 177 AD. Ancient
burial grounds are very common in the Ballon area.
Within a short distance of the village is Altamont Gardens. Set in a
small but uniquely beautiful estate, the gardens at Altamont are one
of County Carlow's premier tourist attractions and touted as the
'most romantic gardens in Ireland'.
Ballon is in a central location for touring the rolling Carlow
countryside and nearby Kilkenny. The village is also within 45
minutes of the Wexford coast. For the scenic lovers the Blackstairs
and Wicklow mountains are nearby. |
