Gowna is a quaint
village located on the shores of Lough Gowna, the source of the
River Erne. This attractive village on the Cavan/Longford border has
been a recent winner in the national tidy towns competition.
Lough Gowna is a fresh water lake which is the uppermost lake on the
River Erne. It is located on the border between County Longford and
County Cavan, with the largest part of the lake being in County
Longford. The Lough Gowna lake system covers 728 hectares and is
known as one of the best coarse fishing waters in Europe. The
numerous weedy bays and inlets of the main lake and smaller waters
are all top class for pike, bream, roach and trout fishing. |
