Mullagh is a quiet
and tranquil village, which lies just east of Lough Ramor amidst the
rolling Drumlin hills of Cavan . The village is situated 8km from
Virginia and 12km from Kells
Mullagh was the birthplace of St Kilian in 640 AD. During his
mission to modern-day Germany, Kilian was martyred, and is now one
of the patron saints of Wurzburg in Germany. His life and death are
represented through artefacts and an audio-visual presentation in St
Kilian's heritage centre. One of the few Ogham stones in Cavan can
also be seen at the centre.
Those with an interest in horticulture will enjoy a visit to
Lakeview Gardens overlooking Mullagh lake, which contains many rare
and unusual plants. A lay-by and seating area by the lake allows
visitors to sit, picnic and overlook the water.
Mullagh Fair Day has been part of Mullagh from the early 1800s. One
of the most popular fairs in the North East, Mullagh Fair was always
held on the last Friday of every month. |
