Virginia is an
attractive town sited on the the northern shores of beautiful Lough
Ramor. Lough Ramor has wooded shores and a great reputation for
coarse fishing. It makes an ideal base for a fishing holiday, or
simply exploring an attractive and unspoilt part of the country.
With four hotels in the town, several restaurants, a nine-hole golf
course, beautiful woodland walks and the Ramor theatre, Virginia
provides ample entertainment for the visitor.
The annual Virginia Street Fair, held on the last Sunday of June
each year, is a re-enactment of Virginia's historic 'Fairday' with
animals, trading on the street, craft demonstration and
entertainment. Visitors can see Cavan's largest display of vintage
vehicles and participate in traditional Irish music and dancing
Virginia Agricultural Show takes place in August annually and is one
of the biggest and most exciting shows in the Ireland. The Virginia
Pumpkin Festival, is held annually during the October Bank Holiday
weekend and has become a massive event with artists such as Mundy
and Sharon Shannon performing in the Pumpkin Marquee over the
weekend.
Four miles north of Virginia is Killinkere, the reputed birthplace
of American Civil War general, Philip Sheridan. The Killinkere Whit
Jamboree is a major festival, run in the grounds of Killinkere
Leisure Centre. The festival takes place annually over the Whit
(June) Bank Holiday weekend and boasts an unrivalled selection of
events for all ages. |
