Monkstown is a
picturesque village situated 13km south east of Cork City. Monkstown
is on the west bank of the River Lee Estuary at the entrance to Cork
Harbour. The village faces towards Great Island and it looks onto
Monkstown Bay. It is very close, and sometimes amalgamated with the
town of Passage West.
The village has picturesque walks along the waterfront and lovely
restaurants and bars. It is surrounded today by the villages of
Douglas, Rochestown, Passage West and Glenbrook to the north and
Rafeen, Carrigaline, Crosshaven and Ringaskiddy to the south.
Monkstown is well known for its superb 18-hole Golf Course, deep-sea
fishing and sailing club. The cross river ferry at nearby Glenbrook,
conveniently links the Owenabue Valley with East Cork, Fota Island &
Cobh which has magnificent scenery and heritage centres. |
