Schull is a
delightful seaside town nestling between the foothills of Mount
Gabriel and Schull Harbour on the Mizen Peninsula . In the centre of
an area of outstanding beauty, Schull is one of the loveliest
villages on West Corks Atlantic coast.
Regarded as one of West Cork's most popular seaside resorts, Schull
really comes to life during the summer months when a huge number of
visitors and enthusiastic yachtsmen moor in Scull Harbour to compete
in Schull's two sailing festivals. The International Sailing
Festival for children which is held during the second week of July
attracts teenagers from far and wide. The famous Schull Regatta is
held during the week following the August Bank Holiday weekend, when
Schull really comes alive.
Schull is host to a Planetarium where Star Shows are given during
the visitor season. There are a number of cheese-making farms in the
locality which provide an interesting visit. Schull offers the
opportunity to explore the islands of Cape Clear and Sherkin Island
with a ferry service going daily to the islands. For the more active
visitor there are a number of outdoor activities on offer including
golf, pitch and putt, sea angling, fishing, windsurfing, water
skiing, horse-riding, bike rental and diving.
The waters off the Schull coastline are filled throughout the
summertime with dolphins, seals, whales and sharks (if you go to the
right areas). Schull is blessed with a variety of boatmen who would
be able to deliver you to just the right spot. The Schull Sea
Angling Club holds regular competitions which are open to all
visitors.
On the way to Mizen Head from Schull you pass through the
picturesque village of Goleen, Crookhaven, famous for its sailing
connections and Barleycove with its magnificent beach.
