Lifford is the entry
point for many visitors coming from Northern Ireland and the East
Coast. Lifford is the County seat and formerly a vital railhead. Its
main buildings of interest are the magnificently restored Courthouse
in the Diamond and the Church of Ireland nearby. The little town is
on the western bank of the River Foyle, just below where the rivers
Finn, Derg and Mourne combine to form the North-West’s most
important river. It is so close to the much larger town of Strabane,
on the other side of the river, county and international boundary,
that is almost a suburb. The town has a multiplex cinema, a recently
modernised greyhound racing track, and other amenities which attract
cross-border visitors. |
