Portsalon is situated
on the west bank of Lough Swilly and is home to the renowned
Portsalon Golf Club - a must for any golf enthusiast. The village,
with it's picturesque little harbour, is located at one end of
Ballymastocker Bay which is skirted by one of the most spectacular
sandy beaches in Ireland. Portsalon offers golfers an opportunity to
play golf on an original golf links design. Unspoiled, uncrowded,
natural links land, surrounded by the spectacular Knockalla
mountains and white sanded beaches on the shores of Lough Swilly,
visitors are treated to a classic links golfing experience.
Portsalon Beach was voted by the British newspaper "The Observer" as
being the second most beautiful beach in the world. The beach is
over a mile long, has beautiful white sand and is mostly empty by
normal standards. Ballymastocker Bay is within Lough Swilly and
protected by Knockalla Mountain so the beach is protected from the
worst of the Atlantic weather. It is great for walking, exercise and
water sports. |
