Ballywalter is a
small seaside village in County Down situated on the east (Irish
Sea) coast of the Ards Peninsula between Donaghadee and Ballyhalbert.
A thriving port in the 1600s, Ballywalter still has a busy harbour
area which gives the village character and vitality.Just south of
the harbour is the Long Strand, a wide stretch of beach offering
safe bathing and facilities for all kinds of water sports. Kiddies’
play facilities are provided along with tennis courts. Inland are
the ruins of Temple Finn (White Church) and to the south, Balligan
Church, dating back to 1704
Ballywalter Park is a stately home on the outskirts of Ballywalter,
which is open to the public, by appointment. The Park plays host to
the Northern Ireland Game Fair, which attracts nearly 40,000 people
over a single weekend.
Also the Irish Country Sports and Living Festival, has been held on
the estate, bringing back glorious memories of the Park in its
heyday. |
