Killinchy is a small
village in County Down, two miles inland from the western shores of
Strangford Lough. The village sits on a hill overlooking the Lough
The nearby village Whiterock has two yacht clubs, one of which has
its clubhouse on a floating lightship. A local building of
historical importance is Balloo House, once a large farmhouse. It
was bought by the McConnell family in 1893 and has been a licensed
premises ever since.
Killinchy is ideally situated for exploring the Strangford Lough and
Ards Peninsula area, with several places of interest lying within 40
minutes drive. Some of the many places to visit include National
Trust properties at Castle Ward, Rowallen and Mount Stewart, also
Portaferry Aquarium, Delamont Country Park and The Wildlife and
Wetlands Trust at Castle Espie. This is an area rich in natural
beauty and is renowned for its outdoor pleasures with special appeal
to walkers, bird watchers, golfers, yachtsmen, and artists. |
