Ardrahan is a village
in South County Galwa on the main Galway to Limerick road. The
village is conveniently located close to the towns of Loughrea, Gort,
Craughwell and is also within easy access of Galway city
Ardrahan is famous for its ringforts. In 1236, Richard de Burgo,
after successfully conquering County Galway, granted Ardrahan to
Maurice Fitzgerald who built a stone castle, the ruins of which lie
just north of the village
The most noteworthy attraction in Ardrahan is Tullira Castle, once
owned by playwright and independence activist Edward Martyn who was
a friend of W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory. Tullira Castle is private
