Ballyconneely is a
beautiful village located in Connemara in County Galway. It can be
found about 10km south of Clifden and is the entry point to the
Errismore Peninsula. This peninsula, jutting into the Atlantic
between Clifden to the north and Roundstone to the south, contains
some of the most tranquil, unspoilt and interesting countryside to
be found anywhere in the country. Ballyconneely is an ideal place
from which to explore the many fine beaches, some with coral
strands, situated along the nearby Ballyconneely and Mannion Bays.
As well as being ideal for bathing, some of those beaches provide
excellent bases for shore fishermen.
Connemara, or Ballyconneely Golf Club, as it is also known, is
located between the Twelve Bens Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, in
one of the most splendid settings imaginable. According to renowned
golf writer, James W. Finnegan, the golf links of Connemara is "a
perfect reflection of the austere beauty that is the world of
Connemara".
The world famous Connemara Pony is bred in Ballyconneely. An annual
show and sale is held in the village on the 3rd Sunday in July. |
