Ballymoe is a small
village located on the N60, close to the Galway-Roscommon border.
The village is situated on the western side of the River Suck.
Ballymoe is just a 10-minute drive from the neighbouring town of
Roscommon and a 5 minutes drive from Castlerea town centre.
Ballymoe derives its name from a fort which was erected by Queen
Maeve of Connaught along the River Suck, under the command of Mogh.
Ballymoe is the centre of a small rural area involved in small scale
mixed farming. It has examples of natural history such as raised
bogs, forts and a mass rock from penal times.
The Suck Valley way-marked walk passes through the village.
Ballymoe is famous for being the birthplace of Father Edward
Flanagan, founder of Boystown, Nebraska, USA.
