Inverin or Inveran is
a village in Connemara between Spiddal and Casla (Costelloe) in
County Galway. Inverin is more strongly Irish-speaking than Spiddal,
partly due to fewer commuters from Galway living there. There are a
number of Irish-language summer colleges in the area, most notably
Coláiste Lurgan and Coláiste Uí Chadhain.
Inverin is one of the most scenic villages in Connemara with
fabulous sea views along the coast and a fine sandy beach. This
beach was the scene of a local tragedy in 1917, when a German mine
washed up on the beach and killed nine local people who came to
examine it.
Inverin is the location of the Connemara airport, which has daily
flights to the Aran Islands. |
