Glenbeigh, a small
fishing and holiday village, is situated on the northern edge of the
Ring of Kerry 10 km west of Killorglin. This gentle village at the
foot of the Seefin mountain is framed by the Coomasaharn horseshoe
mountains to the south, Curra to the west with Slievemish to the
north.
The main attraction of Glenbeigh is the superb Blue Flag Rosbeigh
beach 1.5km from the village. This beach stretches over 6km with
wonderful views across the bay to the Dingle Mountains. The beach
provides ideal conditions for swimming, walking and, with a number
of mud flats found on the eastern side of the land, some fantastic
bird watching. The sandy beach also plays host to the annual
Glenbeigh Races every August.
The mountain scenery here is magnificent, and the circuit of the
hills from Seefin to Drung Hill, called the "Glenbeigh Horse-shoe",
is one of Kerry's finest mountain walks. There is trout fishing on
Lough Coomasaharn and on the Behy River.
The nearest 18 hole golf course is Dooks Golf Course which has
spectacular views over Dingle Bay. The next golf course is
Killorglin Golf Course. This course enjoys magnificent panoramic
views of the majestic Macgillicuddy Reeks Mountain Range. |
