Lispole village is
situated on the southern side of the Dingle Peninsula 8km east of
Dingle Town. Lispole is known as the "Gateway to the Gaeltacht". Not
only does this mean that more people can be heard speaking Irish but
also that road signs and town names are written, for the most part,
in their original Irish form.
Lispole village grew up around the bridge over the Owenalondrig
River in the 19th century. To the north of the main road can be seen
Lispole Viaduct, an impressive relic of the Tralee and Dingle
Railway. The Dingle Way long distance footpath runs through the
area, passing Minard Castle and Lispole village before joining a
mountain track that leads to the old Conor Pass road and into Dingle
Town.
Lispole is the perfect base from which to explore the Dingle
Peninsula with its spectacular beaches, headlands and mountains.
Take a drive around Slea Head, over the Connor pass or partake in
the wide range of outdoor activities available in the area. The
colourful town of Dingle has much to offer including golf, fishing,
craft shops, pubs, seafood restaurants and, of course. Fungi - the
world-renowned dolphin. |
