Milltown is a small
town located in the heart of the kingdom of Kerry between the
McGillycuddys Reeks and the Dingle Peninsula. It is situated between
the major towns of Tralee and Killarney and is only 6km from
Killorglin.
Milltown itself hosts a number of annual festivals and events
including the World Bodhran Championships. The World Bodhrán
Championships is an exciting world percussion festival held annually
over the June Bank Holiday weekend. The event which promotes and
showcases the Irish frame drum, the bodhrán, includes four days of
concerts, music sessions, workshops and the competitions to find the
best bodhrán player in the world.
The old Church in the centre of the village now hosts an Organic
market which is very popular on Saturdays. Indeed Milltown has
developed a "health and wellbeing" reputation in recent years. The
community is already widely known in the region for the organic
market and the many alternative therapy practitioners in the
locality.
Milltown is a wonderful base from which to explore the magic of the
Ring of Kerry and the breathtaking scenery of Dingle Peninsula. The
vibrant, tourist town of Killarney, with its many traditional pubs
and fantastic restaurants, is only a short drive away. Killarney, of
course, also has a magnificent National Park containing the famous
Killarney Lakes. For for those of you who prefer the seaside and
wish to indulge in some water sports, nearby Inch has long stretches
of unspoilt beach for you to enjoy.
The River Laune runs
through Killorglin (10 minutes drive from Milltown) and it enjoys a
run of salmon throughout the year and a good run of spring salmon.
It also holds good stocks of brown trout. Milltown is also centrally
located among a number of excellent golf courses - including courses
at Killorglin, Killarney, Beaufort and Tralee. |
