Tralee Town is the
capital of County Kerry, set at the mouth of Tralee Bay with
panoramic views of sea and mountains stretching into the west. It is
the starting town of both the Dingle and Kerry Head Peninsulas.
Lying in the heart of Kerry, the coast, lakes and mountains of the
Kingdom are all within easy reach.
The town has become famous due to the International Rose of Tralee
Festival and the Tralee Races. Both of these events are held on the
same weekend at the end of August each year, making Tralee town a
lively place to visit. The Rose of Tralee Festival has more than
enough attractions to occupy a few pleasant days including open-air
free concerts, floats featuring the Roses, the circus and street
entertainment. The horse racing festival is a five day race meeting
held at Tralee racecourse which is 2km from the town centre. This is
widely regarded as a fun racing festival. The main concern is to
enjoy the atmosphere- if you pick a winner, even better!
The town contains many attractive 19th Century buildings and has a
host of facilities you would expect in a capital town including the
Aqua Dome, Kerry County Museum, Siamsa Tire (the National Folk
Theatre of Ireland), an 80 acre town park and a cinema complex. Go
to the Greyhound dog races at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium. Play a
round of golf on the 18-hole championship course at Tralee Golf
Club. Evening comes and there are tons of pubs in town.
Situated at the gateway to the Dingle Peninsula and within 30
minutes drive from Killarney, Tralee is the ideal base for exploring
the world famous Kingdom of Kerry. The renowned Banna Beach is
located not far from the town and you can do a whole host of water
sports here.
Tralee and Fenit Harbour & Marina is located in Tralee Bay, just
South of the Shannon Estuary and approximately 10 km from Tralee
Town. It is a comfortable day's sailing from both Dingle marina (44
nautical miles) and Kilrush marina (35 nautical miles).
Tralee has many other attractions, which would be expected, in a
town of its size including Bowling Alley, Snooker Hall, Indoor
Kiddies Adventure Centre, and Equestrian Centre. |
