Urlingford is a a
bustling little town in North West Kilkenny which dates back to
1755. It is located near the border with County Tipperary and is 28
km west of Kilkenny City
Urlingford lies on the main N8 Dublin - Cork road. It is situated at
the midway point between these two cities. This strategic position
has made Urlingford a centre for public transport for generations.
Near the town are Urlingford Castle and Church. The castle belonged
to the Mount Garret Butlers.
Kilcooly Abbey is a large Irish Cistercian abbey located near
Urlingford but the abbey itself lies in County Tipperary. Kilcooley
Abbey was founded in 1184 by Donal Mior O'Brien of Thomand. It is a
daughter house of Jerpoint Abbey and is set in unspoiled
countryside. The abbey is situated in the grounds of a large estate
adjoining the ancient pilgrim route to Cashel. The estate and house
