Ballyroan is a
village in County Laois located 10km south of Portlaoise and 5km
north east of the heritage town of Abbeyleix.
With its central location, Ballyroan is an ideal base to explore
County Laois. There are many beautiful gardens and walks in the
area. The wonderful Emo Court is about 15km north of Ballyroan. The
Heywood gardens and the Abbeyleix gardens are are both about 5kms
from the village. Aghaboe Abbey, a medieval monastery is situated
about 10km west of the village. Founded by St. Canice in the 6th
century, Aghaboe Abbey is the site of four different phases of
Christian life in Ireland. The Annual Steam Festivals are held
locally in Ballyroan, Ballinakill and in Stradbally throughout the
summer months. The famous Electric Picnic - a very large rock
concert held annually in September - takes place in Stradbally about
15km from Ballyroan
About 5km from Ballyroan, there is fishing on the River Nore.

number of good bars and restaurants as well as a museum and an 18
hole golf course. It is 10km from Portlaoise town which has a
cinema, theatre, bars restaurants, bowling, town park, kiddies' park
and several shopping centres.

Agricultural Museum is about 15 km, the Mountmellick Lace Musuem is
about 12km. The Annual Steam Festivals are held locally in Ballyroan,
Ballinakill and in Stradbally throughout the summer months. There is
a very large rock concert held annually in September about 7km, this
is the Electric Picnic. There are numerous locations for game and
course fishing locally. Fishing tackle, bait and permits are
obtainable locally.

There are three pubs in the village and a minimarket. It is three
kms from Abbeyleix, a heritage town which has a number of good bars
and restaurants as well as a hotel,a musuem and an 18 hole golf
course. It is 10km from Portlaoise town which has a cinema, theatre,
hotels, bars restaurants, bowling, town park, kiddies' park,
shopping centres, railway station, etc. About 5km from Ballyroan,
there is fishing on the River Nore, horseriding, and paintball as
well as historical sites. Kilkenny city is about 20km and Carlow is
also about 20 km. There are numerous 18 hole golf courses. |
