Keshcarrigan is a
village in the centre of County Leitrim. This scenic village along
the Shannon-Erne Waterway, sits at the foot of Sheebeg and close to
the shores of Lough Scur. There is a mooring for cruising traffic
and lively pubs which have traditional music sessions on a regular
basis. About 1km west of Keshcarrigan on the road to
Carrick-on-Shannon there is a collapsed dolmen overlooking Lough
Scur.
Keshcarrigan is a coarse angling centre of some renown with a
selection of good fishing waters in the vicinity and an established
reputation for catering for anglers. Nearby Lough Scur is a large
water which gives access to the Erne system since the restoration of
the Shannon Erne Waterway. It contains Bream, Roach, Hybrids, Pike,
Perch and Eels. Beside the village, Kesh Lake has Bream to 4lbs plus
Roach, Perch and Hybrids. The Shannon Erne Waterway near the village
has fishing from stands for Bream, Roach, Hybrids Pike, Perch and
Eels. There is also good fishing on Carrickport Lake, Drumlahen
Lake, Castlefore Lake, and Laura Lake.
The quiet minor roads around Keshcarrigan are perfect for cycling
and with many loops available you wouldn’t have to see the same
scenery twice. Tour de Humbert cycling route is 225km and is
suitable for cyclists of all ages and levels. The Leitrim section of
the route goes through Dromahair, Killargue, Drumkeeran, Drumshanbo,
Keshcarrigan, Garvagh & Cloone.
