Kiltyclogher is a
small village in the north eastern part of County Leitrim. It is
located on the border with County Fermanagh
In the centre of the village of Kiltyclogher is a Memorial to Sean
MacDiarmada, one of the leaders of the 1916 Rising.He was born here
in 1884. His home is open to visitors by arrangement and is situated
1km outside the village just off the Manorhamilton road.
There is a great musical tradition in the Kiltyclogher area. The
village annually holds the Michael Shanley Traditional Music
Weekend, in commemoration of the late Michael Shanley. The festival
takes place in mid-August and during this time there are sessions,
concerts and classes as well as a door-dancing competition. The
village also hosts a drama festival.
There is excellent fishing on Lough Melvin just to the north of the
village
Prince Connell’s Grave, a passage grave dated from the second
millennium is situated nearby. |
