in the far north of County Leitrim, close to the borders with
Counties Donegal, Sligo and Fermanagh. It is situated on the most
northern point of Lough Melvin
The banks of the Drowes river at Kinlough is the location of Ross
Friary where the Annals of the Four Masters, a history of Ireland up
to 1616, were written. The Four masters are commemorated in stone on
the Mullinaleck Bridge at the Donegal/Leitrim boundary on the
Ballyshannon road.
The Kinlough Folk Museum in the village offers an interesting
insight into the days gone by. It contains an original public bar,
traditional furniture, newspaper cuttings and farm implements.
Visitors can follow a lovely walk from the village to the shores of
Lough Melvin. The popular seaside resort of Bundoran in Co. Donegal
is also a mere 3km away. Bundoran is one of Irelands premier surfing
venues.
Lough Melvin is a beautiful unspoilt lough famous for fishing and
particularly the diversity and number of salmonids that inhabit it.

strains of trout. The lake runs from Kinlough to Garrison which is
in County Fermanagh. The first salmon of the year has often been
caught on the river Drowes which runs from the lake. Permits, boats,
gillies are all available locally in Kinlough.
