Leitrim is a village
in the west of County Leitrim close to the border with County
Roscommon. It is located on the River Shannon and is connected to
the River Erne via the Shannon-Erne Waterway
The village is one of the the gateways to this extensive Waterway
system and boasts a jetty with excellent facilities for the cruising
traffic which passes through. It is a very neat village with an
excellent record in the National Tidy Towns competition.
Leitrim village is situated in the heartland of Ireland's inland
fishing. The Boyle River, Lough Allen, Lough Key, Cootehall,
Garadice Lake and Keshcarrigan are within easy reach of the village.
Pike over 15kg, roach, bream, tench are but some of the local
varieties. The Drumlin counties of Cavan, Fermanagh and Leitrim have
a limestone run-off with little incidence of pollution. The town of
Carrick-on-Shannon 6km south west of Leitrim village has an
extensive range of facilities including a leisure centre, golf
course, restaurants, hotels and a mainline railway station. |
