Kilfinane is a small
market town in southeast County Limerick. The town is situated about
8km from the town of Kilmallock on the road from Kilmallock to
Mitchelstown.
At an elevation of over 150 metres, Kilfinane is the highest town in
County Limerick. From this elevated position it enjoys views of the
Golden Vale to the north and the Ballhoura Mountains to the south,
east and west.
A main point of interest in the town is Kilfinane Motte, a large
flat-topped mound encircled by three earthen ramparts. The town is
also a popular centre for holidaying in rural Ireland, with farm
trails, horse-riding and walking on the Ballyhoura Way.
The Ballyhoura International Walking Festival takes place annually
over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Ballyhoura Country is an area of
undulating green fields, woodlands and rolling hills. It is a
walkers paradise with unspoilt beauty and a variety of landscapes.
The walking festival has something for everyone whether you enjoy a
family day out or a serious hike. |
