Pallaskenry is a
village in north County Limerick. The village is located about 20 km
west of Limerick city close to the River Shannon estuary
A pier on the Shannon Estuary is located a couple of kilometres
north of the village, at Ringmoylan. A ruined windmill looks out
across the estuary from the pier. This point is almost directly
across the estuary from Shannon Town, and offers a good view of
aeroplanes landing and taking off at Shannon Airport.
Curraghchase Forest Park is 5 km south of Pallaskenry. This forest
park consists of the woodland estate and lakes around the ruins of
18th century Curraghchase House home of poet Aubrey de Vere.
Facilities in the forest park Include 313 hectares of mixed
woodland, 8 km of multi purpose waymarked trails, multi-access Lake
Walk (1.5km) and Arboretum walk (1.1km) and permanent Orienteering
trails. There are two Children’s Playgrounds as well as picnic and
BBQ facilities.
