Tallanstown`s history goes hand in hand with it's attachment to the
Louth Hall estate, ancient home of the Plunkett family, whose most

initially to house the workers who performed various tasks on the
estate. The cottages which from the central triangle were built in
the early 19th century. These cottages still retain their original
large red chimney stacks and step slated roofs.
To the west of Tallanstown there are the remains of a motte-castle.
Also in the vicinity is Knock Abbey or Tallanstown House which
incorporates a 15th century tower house while on the eastern side of
the village stands Glyde Court, the home of the 19th century
philanthropist Vere Foster.
Two kilometres south of the village lies Lisrenny. This estate was

for sport and hunting. To this present day its kennels are home to
the famous Louth Hunt pack. The Hunt meet twice weekly, on Wednesday
and Saturday, throughout the hunting season which lasts from October
to April. Tallanstown, being the home base of the Louth Hunt, offers
