Termonfeckin is a
small picturesque seaside village located on the south east coast of
County Louth. It lies 8 km north-east of Drogheda and has an
extensive stretch of golden beach only a short stroll from its
centre.
The peaceful and serene Termonfeckin has a surprising tradition of
history and prehistory and the archaeology of the area is
considerable. The origin of the villages name date to the 7th
century when a monastery was founded here by St. Fechin. The castle
in Termonfeckin is a 15th or 16th century tower house of 3 storeys,
with good trefoil headed windows. Its most unusual feature is the
corbelled roof, similar to the technique used for the Newgrange
chamber roof, which is on the third storey. This castle was damaged
in the Irish Rebellion of 1641 but was later repaired by a Captain
Brabazon. It is now a National Monument.
Termonfeckin boasts the magnificent Sea Point Championship Golf
Course and adjacent Sea Point Pitch and Putt Course. With
magnificent views of the Mourne Mountains in the distance,
Termonfeckin beach and the Irish Sea to the East, the landscape at
Seapoint Golf Club reflects all the qualities of true links land,
with natural dunes, marram grasses and indigenous plants in
plentiful supply. Seapoint is an excellent and scenic golf links
that can be rated as one of Ireland's most demanding challenges.
With County Louth Golf Club just 3km away at Baltray this
magnificent section of Ireland's east coast is a golfers haven. |
