Ballyhaunis is a busy
town in East County Mayo. It is located close to the borders with
Counties Roscommon and Galway giving it a central location in the
province of Connaught. The railway line connecting Dublin to
Westport and Ballina passes through the town. Ireland West Airport
at Knock is just 25 km away
Ballyhaunis grew up around St Mary's Augustinian Friary which was
founded as far back as 1348. The town and the surrounding
countryside has one of the highest concentrations of megalithic
monuments and tombs in the West of Ireland. Ballyhaun is located in
the midst a patchwork of small fields, bogland, lakes and narrow
country lanes - ideal terrain for the walking/cycling enthusiast
There are several good fishing lakes within a 12 km radius of the
town inculding Bekan, Lake O'Flynn, Errit, Mannin and Urlaur. These
provide the keen angler with first-rate game and course fishing
opportunities. Pike, perch, tench and trout are in plentiful supply.
Ballyhaunis Golf Club is located just 3km north of the town.
Although this scenic parkland course has 9 holes it features a total
of eighteen tees in different positions so golfers can get the
experience of 18 holes from just nine physical ones.Utmost accuracy
is demanded here by the tricky greens if you want to have any chance
