Navan is the county
town of County Meath . This market town is a thriving business and
commercial centre with a host of shopping, nightlife & entertainment
opportunities for visitors.
The Blackwater Rivermerges with the River Boyne on the eastern side
of the town at the ancient Poolbeg Bridge. Some beautiful riverside
walks are available.The great Mote (Navan Motte) just outside the
town is the best place to view the surrounding countryside
Navan Racecourse is a horse racing venue at Proudstown near Navan.
The course stages flat racing but is best known for National Hunt
racing. Over the years many famous national hunt horses have raced
and won at Navan, the most notable of all being the famous Arkle.
Navan Racecourse has a fully licensed bar and restaurant.
Situated on 180 acre grounds alongside Navan Racecourse, Navan Golf
Club is an18 hole par 72 golf course designed by Robert J Browne. It
comprises 6800 yards with large sand based greens in undulating
ground with water hazards which test the skills of all categories of
golfers. The Royal Tara Golf Club is just 10km south of Navan.
Navan is surrounded by a number of famous historic sites, all of
which are within a short driving distance. The Hill Of Tara,
Ireland's ancient capital, is 11km away. The intriguing pre-celtic
monuments of Dowth, Knowth and Newgrange are legacies of the area's
previous splendour and date back to over 5,000 years ago - even
older than Stonehenge and the pyramids at Giza. |
