Ratoath is a
town in south east Co Meath located approximately half way between
Ashbourne and Dunshaughlin. The Broad Meadow River flows through the
town. Ratoath is just 25km from Dublin city centre.
The famous Fairyhous Racecourse is located just outside the town.
The Irish Grand National is held in annually at Easter on this
track. Ratoath is
steeped in history and according to various sources it was around
1196 that the first ever Barony in Ireland was created and so the
Barony of Ratoath was formed. This was given to Hugh De Lacy and was
essentially a division of County Meath.
Ratoath is often misspelt as Rathoath, but this is a “mistake"
The Venue Theatre found in the community centre offers first class
entertainment with everything from plays to comedians and musical
entertainment. Ratoath also has a great deal to offer for a night
out with 6 restaurants and 3 pubs, there is no shortage of
destinations. |
