Rockcorry is a
quaint and historical village in County Monaghan located close to
the border with County Cavan. It is situated on the edge of Dartrey
forest and is approximately halfway between Cootehill and Monaghan
Town. Rockcorry is a
village of handsome stone buildings and it developed as a result of
the linen industry which was founded by the Corr family. The ruin of
the old linen mill can be seen on the outskirts of the
village.
Rockcorry Market
House was built in 1805 by Thomas C Steuart Corry. An obelisk-style
monument, situated between Cootehill and Rockcorry, was erected by
local electors in honour of the 18th century MP Richard Dawson. He
was returned to five successive parliaments.
There are a number of good fishing lakes close to Rockcorry
in including White Lake (tench, pike and bream) Coravoo Lake and
Drumlona Lake. |
