Belmont is a
small village in north west Offaly some 5kms west of Ferbane and
3.5kms north of Cloghan. It is located on the banks of the River
Brosna and is surrounded by lush countryside.
The village grew up around a water mill complex which dates back to
the 1760s and which was run by the Perry family between 1854 and
1997. These old buildings were bought in 1998 by Tom Dolan and Sandy
Lloyd, who have slowly restored them over the last decade or so.
Today the complex is known as Belmont Mill and Artist Studios and is
an inspiring venue for artists and creative people. It is located
adjacent to the weir on the River Brosna.
Located on the lands of Fadden Castle on the outskirts of Belmont is
a beautifully crafted model village called Larry's Old Time Village.
It depicts Ireland from the early 1900's up to the 1950 and includes
12 thatched cottages, a pub, a landlords house and a windmill.
