Athleague is a
small village in Co Roscommon located just 7km south west of
Roscommon Town.
Centrally located in Ireland, Athleague village is nestled on the
banks of the River Suck, and is on the route of the Suck Valley Way,
a 100km long walk that winds through the beautiful Suck River
Valley.
The fishing enthusiast will find Athleague the ideal location.
The Suck Valley Angling / Visitor Centre is housed in the former
Church of Ireland building dating from 1842. The keeen angler can
enjoy coarse fishing, trout and pike angling on the river Suck and
on it's many well known lakes. There are excellent stretches for
rudd, pike, tench and wild brown trout. There is easy access to
river banks and lake shores. Boats are available for hire on
request.
The Roscommon Golf Club is just 8km from Athleague. This 18
hole course was founded in 1904 and is set in mature parklands with
sycamore, beech, whitethorn and ash trees The club house was rebuilt
in 1996 and has a modern spacious bar and restaurant looking over
the first and eighteenth holes. Eddie Connaughton designed this fine
parkland course. |
