Cootehall is a
most attractive, historic village situated on the banks of the Boyle
River with access to the Shannon Erne Waterway system. It is
situated between Lough Key and Lough Eidin some 9km east of Boyle
Town.
Landmark features of Cootehall include the old “Stone Bridge”,
Manfred’s Restaurant, the Marina, the Church at the top of the hill
and the renowned pub - Henry’s Bar.
Cootehall is in an area of immense natural beauty with superb
recreational activities nearby including boating, angling, walking
and hiking. It is also adjacent to the newly opened Adventure and
Amenity development at Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, where
attractions include an outdoor adventure play kingdom, Scandinavian
style 'tree canopy' walk, viewing tower, restaurant/café in a 350
hectare estate.
The famous author, John McGahern , was brought up in
Cootehall. One of his books, 'Amongst Women' won him the Booker
prize in 1991. |
