Ballygawley is
a small village located 9km due south of Sligo Town.
The village is located close to Union Wood and the shores of
Ballygawley Lough. This is an area rich in wildlife, a lovely area
for a walk and also good for fishing. It has a picnic area and a
marked walking trail.
A fine golf course laid out around the ruins of the ancient Castle
Dargan was opened in Ballygawley in 2005. The Castle Dargan Golf
Resort is the only championship parkland course and golf resort in
the North West of Ireland. The resort is set in 170 acres of mature
woodland and includes a Darren Clarke-designed golf course, practice
academy, and resident PGA pro.
10km north of Ballygawley is Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery. This is
the largest cemetery of megalithic tombs in Ireland. The tombs are
spread out over a number of fields and townlands. |
