Coolaney is a
picturesque village in north Co Sligo. It lies at the foot of the Ox
mountains and the river Owenbeg flows through it.
Coolaney has been winner of the Sligo Tidy Towns competition on
numerous occasions. The village has beautiful riverside walks which
are enhanced by the remains of an old mill.
The countryside surrounding the Coolaney has a good selection of
walking and cycling circuits through mountain, forest and farmland.
Going towards the coast, Dunmoran Strand can be reached by driving
through the beautiful Ladies Brae. South of Coolaney stands Knock na
Shee (Hill of the Fairies) a classic example of an ancient hill
Fort.
Coolaney holds an annual summer festival. |
