Grange is a
small village in north east Sligo, located in a scenic area between
Benbulben Mountain and the sea.
Just over 3km from Grange is Streedagh. This is the location of a
fine sandy beach and an area of Special Conservation. Three Spanish
Armada ships - La Lavia, La Juliana and the Santa Maria de Vison -
were lost off Streedagh in 1588 and this is commemorated by a
monument close to the beach.
In addition to Streedagh there are a number of fine beaches within
easy driving distance of Grange including, Mullaghmore, Lissadell
and Rosses Point. Major heritage sites in the locality include
Lissadel House, Sligo Abbey, the Carromore Megalithic Tombs and
Parks Castle. The County Sligo Golf Club at Rosses Point is 17km
away. Grange is the
starting point for a spectacular drive through the Gleniff
Horseshoe. Huge limestone cliffs in the valley between the towering
Truskmore and Kings Mountains and a cave associated with the
legendary lovers, Diarmuid and Grainne, are some of the features on
this drive. Island
View Riding Stables is a family run farm at the foot of Benbulben
mountain near Grange village. This AIRE approved equestrian centre
