Annestown is a
picturesque village located 8km west of Tramore on the south coast
of Co Waterford. It is situated 15km south west of Waterford City.
Annestown has remained largely unspoiled by the building development
of recent times. The village has attractive stone - walled approach
roads from both directions. Annestown Strand, with its sea arch and
islands, is a very attractive bathing place and is popular with
surfers. Near the beach is a castellated lime kiln.
Annestown Stream, which runs by the village is the subject of an
ecological conservation programme. Dunhill Castle can be seen,
perched on a cliff, upstream from the village bridge. Nearby, via a
scenic cliff walk, is Dunbrattin Promontory Fort, an Iron Age
Fortification.
The village is located along the route of the Copper Coast Drive.
The Copper Coast is a beautiful and rugged piece of coastline. The
name refers back to a period of intense copper-mining during the
19th century which centred on Bunmahon, 9km west of Annestown. The
jewels in this copper region are the coves, harbours and beaches -
'old-fashioned' beaches with sand and rock-pools and caves, and six
very individual villages including Annestown.
Between Bunmahon and Annestown is Waterford Woodcraft. Tramore Golf
Club is just 7km east of the village |
