Passage East is a
historic fishing village in east County Waterford. It is situated on
the west bank of Waterford Harbour, 12 km from Waterford City and 10
km from Dunmore East.
Passage East has a long beach which is great for fishing with some
fine specimen bass being caught. Other fish being caught on the
beach vary from codlin, whitting, flatfish and pollack. It is
possible to walk from Passage East to the wonderful beach at
Woodstown when the tide is out.
Passage East also has
a natural mussel bed in which you can dig for ragworm .This bed
provides the basis for the annual Waterford Estuary Mussel Festival
is held in Passage East every September.
Passage East Car Ferry Company operates between the village and
Ballyhack in Co. Wexford, linking Passage to the Hook Penninsula,
and Rosslare.
Passage East lies along the route of the East Waterford Gaultier
Coast Drive. This is a very scenic drive contained by Waterford
Harbour on one side and magnificent Tramore Bay on the other.
Highlights include the very picturesque resort of Dunmore East, the
protected beach at Woodstown, the scenic fishing village of
Cheekpoint, and Harrison Megalithic Tomb. |
