Rathgormack is a
small village in the north of Co Waterford. It is located 9km south
of Carrick on Suir.
This picturesque village is situated in the Comeragh Mountains. It
lies on the route of the Comeragh Mountains & Nire Valley Drives. It
is located just north of the point where walkers can access the
largest lake in the Comeraghs, Coumshingaun Lough, via Kilclooney
Wood.
Just over 6km to the east of the village is Mothel Abbey (13th c.)
This Augustinian site was the home for hundreds of years to a large
monastery of monks whose abbot controlled a large tract of
mid-Waterford until Henry VIII imposed English rule over the county
and the monastery's power was destroyed for ever. |
