Tramore is a large
seaside town located on the south east coast of Co Waterford. The
town lies just 12km south of Waterford City.
Tramore was a small fishing village until the arrival of the railway
in 1853. The town has continually expanded since that time. Today
Tramore is the sunny South East’s leading holiday resort.
The main attraction in Tramore has always been the superb beach. The
town itself is well named named - Tramore means “Big Strand”. The 5
km golden, sandy beach stretches along the shores of Tramore Bay.
The town itself is built on steep hills rising up from the beach.
The long rolling waves in Tramore attract swimmers, walkers, kite
flyers and, of course, surfers. Surf lessons and equipment are
available locally. Sailing lessons and sea kayaking are also
available.
Tramore beach is also a popular venue for beach angling. The estuary
flowing into the back strand has produced a number of specimen
flounder and bass. Other species in the nearby coastal waters
include pollock, dogfish, dabs, coalfish and whiting. The cliffs
around the resort offer good rock and reef fishing.
Tramore Golf Club is situated on the western outskirts of the town.
This beautiful, exciting and challenging championship golf course
features 27 holes providing a fair test for golfers of all
abilities. At just under 6,700 yards off the tips, Tramore is a fair
test for golfers of all abilities. In 2006 Tramore Golf Club
commissioned Jeff Howes to construct 27 holes to USGA specification.
This involved the construction of 9 new holes followed by a
remodelling of the original 18 hole course.
The Tramore Racecourse is less than 2km from the town centre. This
80-acre venue now boasts top class facilities with three car parks,
two stands and all-tarmac enclosures. The famous Tramore Races have
been providing exciting entertainment for racing fans in south east
Ireland for more than 200 years. The festival in August is still the
highlight of the summer season in Waterford when over four days of
sponsored races, fashion, and socialising make it an event to
remember.
Tramore has a full range of indoor and outdoor leisure facilities
for the holiday maker including the 50 acre Tramore Amusement Park
and Laser Blast - the ultimate high tech adventure game. Splashworld
is the South East's biggest, brightest and best indoor waterpark.
This modern leisure centre is home to state of the art slides along
with many other features including a wild and wonderful wave
machine, whirlpool, bubble pool, baby pool and much much more.
For those who look to experience some of Ireland's breath-taking
scenery, Tramore sits right in the middle of the Southeast Coastal
Drive. To the west is the Copper Coast Drive This scenic route
embraces the wild and spectacular countryside between Tamore and
Dungarvan as well as more intimate seaside resorts with Blue Flag
Beaches such as Clonea and Bunmahon.
To the east of Tramore is the East Waterford Gaultier Coast Drive.

on one side and magnificent Tramore Bay on the other. Highlights
include the very picturesque resort of Dunmore East, the protected
beach at Woodstown, the scenic fishing village of Cheekpoint, the
