Ballycarnew is
a small village in northeast Co Wexford. It is situated 7km south of
Gorey and also 7km from the coast at Ardamine.
This quaint village was historically known as Ballyconway. It lies
on the Ounavarra river which has a reputation for great fishing.
Numerous sandy beaches are situated close by including Courtown and
Kilmuckridge.
In 1965, a Bronze Age grave was discovered in the Ballycanew
locality. This grave yielded a slightly damaged food vessel and
broken human bones. The exact date of the burial is uncertain but is
estimated to be more than 3,000 years old. |
