Cahore is a
small fishing village located on the east coast of Co Wexford. It is
located just 3km east of Ballygarrett.
Like many small Irish fishing villages, Cahore is dominated by its
pier and Coastguard Station. The village has remained unspoilt over
the years and it retains a certain charm and relaxed atmosphere.
This beach at Cahore has been a favourite spot with tourists for
generations. The pier is at one end and the pebbled beach stretches
to rocks at the other. It is very popular for water sports. Cahore
is also a popular small boat fishing centre.
A small slipway
enables small boat owners to reach quality fishing for tope,
smoothhound, spurdog and ray. Bass fishing in this area of Wexford
can also be excellent.
Just south of Cahore is the Oldbawn (Newtown) Beach. This beach has
miles of golden sand and it is possible to walk along this beach to
the adjoining beaches of Ballinoulart and Morriscastle. This beach
is well sheltered by grassy sand dunes which play host to a wide
range of wildlife. It is also a good fishing venue. |
