Gorey is a
market town in north County Wexford. It is located 6km from
Ballymoney on Wexfords beautiful coastline and just 12km south of
the border with Co Wicklow. Its location makes it an ideal base for
exploring both Wexford and Wicklow.
Gorey is a lively town and has plenty to see and do. It has a good
choice of restaurants and pubs and golf and fishing are on offer in
the surrounding area. In recent years Gorey and its wider area have
developed a wide variety of recreation facilities including a state
of the art Skatepark and a new Multi-age Play Park based in the
Townpark. On the artistic and cultural front Gorey Little Theatre
hosts year round entertainment. North Wexford also has many noted
artists who exhibit their work regularly in the town.
The golf visitor to Gorey will be spoilt for choice. Located between
Gorey and the Wexford coastline north of Courtown are no less than 4
golf courses – Ballymoney Golf Club (3.5km), Seafield Golf Club
(6km), Tara Glen Golf Club (5km) and Courtown Golf Club (4km).
Located in the Arklow area 25km north of Gorey is the superb
European Golf Club near Brittas Bay and the beautiful Woodenbridge
Golf Club.
Gorey has access to a number of excellent beaches in North East
Wexford including Ballymoney, Ardamine and the blue flag Courtown
beach. These beaches have improved access and related facilities in
recent years but have retained their unspoilt quality.
The Gorey Market House Craft and Design Festival takes place in the
town over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The festival features a
Craft Food Fair, with artisan food producers selling their produce,
a Children’s Fun Day and a Market Fair, with farmers market, music,
vintage cars and machinery.
A short drive from Gorey will take you to County Wicklow and the
Wicklow Mountains National Park, while all the excitement of Dublin
is only an hour's drive away. |
