Morriscastle
is a beach resort on the east coast of Co Wexford. The main
commercial centre of this resort is effectively 2km inland in the
village of Kilmuckridge.
Morriscastle has long been regarded as one of Irelands best beaches
and was awarded blue flag status in 2008. It forms part of one of
the longest single stretches of beach in Europe and runs for 20
kilometres stretching from Curracloe in the south to Cahore Point in
the north.
There are lifeguards on duty during the summer months of June, July
and August. Morriscastle beach is considered a safe beach for
swimming with very fine sand and beautiful dunes for the kids to
enjoy. The sand dunes are host to hundreds of wildflowers in May
June and July. The beach is also well known for its bass fishing
from the shore, with large numbers of beach fishers visiting every
year.
In addition to being a popular seaside destination for holidaymakers
and day-trippers, Morriscastle is an area of considerable
environmental interest because of the wealth of natural heritage
resource values that exist in its environs.
Morriscastle beach forms part of 'Sli Charman', The Wexford Costal
Path that stretches from Kilmichael Point to Wexford town and
beyond. Walking conditions are usually very good with the sand firm
underfoot.
