Bay Brittas, as it is
commonly known, has been a summer holiday home for Dubliners since
the 1950s. It brings together a mix of permanent residents and day
trippers. The busiest time of year in Brittas Bay is the public
holiday on the first weekend in August (the August Bank Holiday)
which brings hundreds of people down from Dublin to camp on the
beach or in the dunes.
The area enjoys a microclimate and has more sunny days than Dublin.
it is a just under an hours drive from the city centre and due to
the local councils vigilance it has not been overdeveloped. There
are a couple of pubs nearby a small supermarket and a grocery shop.
The beautiful rolling hills and sound of the sea will delight and
refresh you. This is the ideal place for a family or a romantic
holiday.
Brittas Bay is one of the finest beaches on the East Coast and is
the most popular beach around for day tripping Dubliners to get out
of the city on a summer day. Brittas Bay has a 5km stretch of
beautiful white sand dunes and clean beaches. This beach has won a
European Union (EU) Blue Flag - the international emblem for the
highest quality beach areas in Europe - for five consecutive years.
The naturist beach is located almost 2 miles south of the main beach
and is the most popular naturist beach in Ireland. It is long and
sandy, backed by large dunes but with a stony strip between the
dunes and the water (sandals are recommended!)
With no headlands to interfere with the peaceful rhythm, it is ideal
for bathing, sailing and walking. Brittas has a 2mile/3.2km stretch
of powdery sand and sand dune system which is a designated area of
significant interest. The dunes are home to many interesting
wildlife species and plants, including a number of rare species. |
